Black Widows And “Brown Widows” In Santa Clarita

Black widow - Unipest - Pest Control in Santa Clarita

Black widows and “brown widows” are extremely successful in the Santa Clarita Valley, and this summer time heat is making their populations grow even more. A black widow’s venom is reported to be 15 times more venomous than a rattlesnake’s and their web more powerful than stainless steel.

The spider’s venom is a paralytic neurotoxin that freezes their prey and can be a significant health hazard to larger animals like  humans and pets.

Many people mistake spiders in their homes for Brown Recluses, but to date, there have been no registered cases of brown recluse bites in California. In theory, they could survive in an imported good for a period of time, but they wouldn’t reproduce effectively.

We have many spiders here in Santa Clarita, and even a common spider that is not poisonous like the black and brown widows can be a health concern. Bites can get infected, and that infection could land you in the E.R.

There are actually more spiders in your home than you probably realize. The general statistic for spiders is that for every one you see, there are 48-64 that you don’t see!

A good solution is of course our eco-friendly and effective sprays that we perform, but if you really want to rid your house of all spiders, you need to eliminate their food source and their web.

What’s their food source? Crickets! Black widows and other spiders will eat 8-9 crickets a week.

One very important part of our pest control regiment is the de-webbing process. Spiders only make their webs, and “set up shop,” within 14 inches of where the feed daily.

Spiders have very good muscle memory and if they or their web is destroyed or harassed in one area, they will generally abandon that area in search of a less bothersome home.

All of our products, service protocols, and treatments are designed with your family and pets safety in mind, so call us today for a free inspection. Let us rid your house of spiders!
