For Organic Termite Control In Santa Clarita, Unipest’s Orange Oil Gets The Job Done Right
Unipest’s Cardon Ellis explains how the pest control company’s organic orange oil is good news for termite control in Santa Clarita.
Cardon Ellis of Unipest recently documented an orange oil treatment on camera, showing how the Santa Clarita pest control company eradicates termites using natural methods.
After hiring a contractor to repair their patio, a Unipest client discovered extensive termite damage.
“This is about a seven to ten year old infestation,” Ellis said. “So, we’re going to kill them with orange oil and BoraCare.”
Ellis explained that this client’s house was infested with “southwestern dry-wood termite(s)” which are “huge around Southern California.”
He further noted that southwestern drywood termites “have a tendency to eat the wood from the inside out,” and “oftentimes they go for the soft wood in-between the grain first.” The tunnels built by these termites are very smooth in appearance, and leave patterns resembling Swiss cheese throughout infected wood.
“So, what we have to do is find a way to inject (orange oil) into … the tunnels they make, (which) are called galleries,” Ellis explained. “That orange oil is going to soak all the way through that piece of wood, killing any termites that are left inside, and then from the outside, we’re going to spray BoraCare.”
In the video Ellis took of the orange oil process, he demonstrates how the orange oil spreads through the wood over many feet with each injection, working its way through the hollow galleries left behind by the termites.

“Once you’ve injected enough orange oil into that gallery, it’s actually going to soak through the entire piece of wood through the capillary effect over the next four to six hours, just completely melting the exoskeleton of the termites inside in the process,” Ellis said.
In order to target as many termites as possible, Unipest technicians inject orange oil every eight to ten inches along each exposed wood beam in the area of the infestation.
Once the orange oil was thoroughly applied, technicians sprayed a BoraCare treatment on each beam to prevent new infestations. Even areas unaffected by the initial infection, such as the client’s attic, were treated as a preventative measure.
As far as the termites are concerned, “by the time we finish spraying these pieces of wood, you might as well have made them out of metal,” Ellis said.
