How To “Termite Proof” Your House In Santa Clarita

You remember when you were a kid in biology class and the teacher cleverly informed you that cockroaches are so adaptable and breed so quickly that they could survive a nuclear holocaust?

Well, cockroaches ARE super adaptable, and they could survive almost anything… and they have already succeeded in doing so by evolving into termites about 170 million years ago.

Yes, you heard that correctly; termites are basically cockroaches that have adapted a protazoa in their stomach that allows them to process cellulose (wood), and they are doing it quickly, throughout Santa Clarita! Fortunately, chemical science has come a long way in the past 170 million years and we are able to combat these wood-destroying insects better than ever!

Now, a very litigious society, an over-zealous cadre of lawyers, and verbose clauses in the Structural Pest Control Act prevent anybody from saying anything is truly “safe” or “proofed,” but I have to tell you, Boracare with Moldcare is the closest thing you will ever get to “termite proofing” and its protection will most likely outlive you… and the house!

So when people ask me in the common tongue how to “termite proof” a house, I refer them to a thorough Boracare treatment that will most likely outlast both the reader and the writer of this article!

The key to Boracare is an active ingredient called Disodium Octoborate Tetrahydrate…emphasis on the di-sodium. Yes, you heard that right… “sodium.” Distilling down a bunch of technical jargon into colloquial speech, Boracare is basically a glorified salt that can be sprayed on wood or painted onto fresh, untreated wood framing in your home. This “glorified salt” is supplemented with additional compounds that help it slowly soak into the core of the wood over the next 6-11 months before completely solidifying.

Once it has reached the core of the wood and hardened, the salt crystals in Boracare are like a chemical barbed wire that scratches the exoskeleton of termites into the wood, dehydrating them to death. This same chemical barbed wire prevents future termites from being able to burrow into the wood without reaching the same fate. And the best part is that it’s a stable compound that’s kid, pet, and family-friendly once applied and dried correctly!

Boracare can either be used in already built homes to supplement existing preventive treatment protocols or, if you are building, a new home, can be applied to framing before the drywall and the stucco go up to keep termites from making food out of your house years later!
