The buckets contain a natural, predatory fungus in standing water, and are buried in the yard to attract mosquitoes. The mosquitoes land in the fungus and bring it with them afterward.
“It’s so light, it doesn’t kill them for the next two or three days, and they’ll actually transfer it as they feed and they groom,” Ellis said. “They’ll get other mosquitoes infected, and then, boom, you actually eliminate the mosquito problem around your house.”
