Expert On Pest Control In Santa Clarita Discusses Beetles Infesting Trees
There are a few common kinds of beetles that have been seen infesting local trees, according to an expert on pest control in Santa Clarita.
Unipest has recently seen an increased number of diseased and/or infested trees which have required tree injections for treatment, according to Cardon Ellis.
“Tree injections are when a tree gets a disease or it gets bark beetles, which are becoming increasingly common here,” Ellis said. “That’s an insect that will oftentimes create these small holes in trees and introduce a fungus into the tree, or it will actually just start eating the leaves.”

The eucalyptus tree is often seen in Santa Clarita, and this type of tree tends to bring tortoise beetles, according to Ellis.
“They’re pretty big,” he said. “They’re like this little half dome, and you can see their damage because they’re literally taking out chunks of the leaves.”
A second commonly seen tree in Santa Clarita is the California sycamore, and Ellis noted that this type often attracts the polyphagous bark beetle.
“They’re really worried about polyphagous now,” he said. “There’s been a couple of trees in town that have gotten it, so they’re trying to protect all the California sycamores. Polyphagous will kill them in six months.”
