Two Ways To Prevent Expensive Bee Hive Removals With Santa Clarita Pest Control Company Unipest

An expert from the Santa Clarita pest control company Unipest is aiming to help residents avoid bee hive removals this summer around their houses by naming two common issues that can result in infestations.
“It got hot all of a sudden, so everybody’s calling me with all kinds of crazy bee infestations,” said Cardon Ellis, owner of Unipest, adding that Santa Clarita usually gets an influx of bee activity after the weather gets to be above 77 degrees.
The first problem occurs in older homes that have had a repipe, according to Ellis. Usually outward-facing open holes in the stucco are left behind after the removal of old pipes, and then these holes are not sealed properly with a stucco patch.
In addition, new pipes that were installed in the original pipe holes are commonly thinner in diameter than the previous pipes, creating gaps that also are typically not sealed, according to Ellis.

“Bees will penetrate that, and then in the cavity behind where all of that piping is, they will set up a full-blown hive,” he said. “I’ve had 50 pounds of honey taken out from holes the size of a dime from where people did a copper repipe.”
These problems are both what Ellis referred to as “50-cent fixes” if handled using stucco patches prior to any bee problems.
Secondly, Ellis often sees the result of an alarm, internet or cable installation person who decided to put wiring through a hole in the ventilation screen to a home’s attic rather than drilling through a wall and using a plastic grommet to seal it.
“The bees will penetrate through that and then set up a hive in their attic,” Ellis said. “We get lots of attic hives here in Santa Clarita.”
This problem is also a fast, cheap fix that has the potential to prevent an expensive future bee hive removal if taken care of before a bee infestation, according to Ellis.
“If you just with a ladder on a Saturday morning, go to Home Depot and fix this one little thing, it will take you half an hour,” he said. “It will avoid you calling me five years from now with a $5,000 problem.”
